How to delete your tweets and replies on X (Twitter)

Updated 2026-09-22 · Written by the TweetXDelete team

To delete a single reply, open it on X, click the More icon at the top of the post and choose Delete. X has no bulk option: its help page says posts can only be deleted manually, one by one. For a larger cleanup, TweetXDelete scans your posts and replies together inside your existing X session and deletes them in batches.

Replies and posts are one selection. TweetXDelete has no mode that deletes only replies, and no keyword filter: Posts and replies removes both. If you want to keep your original posts and remove only some replies, delete those replies on X one by one.

Start with a small run

  1. Install TweetXDelete for Chrome and sign in to the X account you want to clean. Click the extension icon, then Open X and show the panel.
  2. Under What to delete, select Posts and replies. Everything also removes your reposts and likes, so leave it aside for this walkthrough.
  3. Open Advanced options. Set Stop after to 3. It counts from your oldest items, so a trial starts with your oldest posts and replies. Leave Pace on Careful (recommended).
  4. Click Scan my account. The scan reads your posts first and then your replies, as far as X lists them: roughly your newest 3,200.
  5. Review the count. Click Start deleting, then check the account, the action and the count in the confirmation before you continue.
  6. When the trial finishes, open the Replies tab on your profile and check the result. To continue, change or clear Stop after, run Scan my account again and review the new confirmation.

Choose which replies stay

Keep the last 7 days is enabled initially, so your newest posts and replies stay untouched. Untick it to include them.

Date limit selects everything posted before the date you choose. It is not a range, and it applies to posts and replies alike. Use it to clear older history while keeping everything you posted after that date.

If replies are missing from the scan

X returns your posts and your replies through separate requests. If the replies request fails, the log shows Note: X did not fully answer the replies request. Posts are complete; replies may be missing or incomplete. Run the scan again later, or use your archive as described below.

Use your archive for older replies

X lists roughly your newest 3,200 posts and replies. Your X archive can supply older ones.

  1. In X settings, open Your account, then Download an archive of your data. Complete verification on X and request the archive. X says preparation can take a few days.
  2. Download the ZIP when X notifies you and extract it on your computer. Your posts and replies are in tweets.js inside the archive's data folder.
  3. In TweetXDelete, select Posts and replies, open Advanced options and click Load archive file (full history). Choose the extracted file, not the ZIP. The file is read on your computer and is not uploaded; only post IDs and dates are read.
  4. Check the queued count in the log. Keep the last 7 days, Date limit and Stop after apply to the imported list too. Then use Start deleting and read the confirmation.

If your archive contains several tweets files, process each part separately. Finish the current run before loading the next file: importing another file replaces the scanned list rather than adding to it.

Pause and check the result

Keep the X tab open while the job runs. From version 0.4.4 the extension asks your computer not to sleep during a run. Closing a laptop lid, Mac or otherwise, still pauses it until the computer wakes. Stop pauses the job after the current request. Before closing the tab, wait for STOPPED in the log, or FINISHED if the run completed before it could pause. Use Resume where it stopped for an unfinished job. A completed trial needs a new scan, not Resume.

The extension waits when X signals a rate limit, so there is no guaranteed completion time. A finished queue also does not prove that every reply is gone: check the Replies tab on your profile and search X for from:yourhandle.

Frequently asked questions

Can I delete only my replies and keep my posts?

Not with TweetXDelete. Posts and replies is one selection, and there is no keyword filter. Date limit and Keep the last 7 days narrow the list by date only. To remove a few replies and keep everything else, delete them on X one by one.

Do I need my X archive to delete replies?

No. Scan your account first. The archive helps when older replies are missing from the scan, but it cannot guarantee that every reply can be found or removed.

How many replies can I delete for free?

The first 30 successful operations are included across posts, reposts and likes together. Deleting a reply counts as a post operation. There is no separate allowance for each type.

Will the whole conversation disappear?

No. You can only delete your own posts. The post you replied to and the replies other people wrote stay on X.

Can I undo the cleanup?

No. Deletion is permanent, in TweetXDelete and on X. Download your X archive first if any of your replies matter to you.
